Our team of 4 full-time and 2 part-time support workers are on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to support residents to live independently.
Between 8.30am and 9pm they visit residents and make regular contact with them. We make sure that everyone receives a visit at least once a month, although many residents are visited more frequently than this if they need extra support, for example if they have been ill, or are lonely. Outside these hours the support workers deal with any emergencies that arise.
We make sure that we have some sort of contact with everyone every three days, even if this only means that, for example, the resident called in at reception, or is seen out and about around the site. Support workers will also plan and carry out social events throughout the year, liaise with external agencies such as GPs, district nurses, etc., and keep necessary records of resident support.
In November 2010 we had a review by the Kent County Council Supporting People team on the services we offer to the residents in our apartments. This involved scrutiny of our policies and procedures to ensure we are operating a good service which also met all regulations. In the afternoon the team met with four residents who were able to confirm this to them. We were provisionally awarded an A grading (the best!) subject to meeting two action points by January 2011 which we have now completed.
