Sheltered Housing
Sheltered housing is sometimes a misunderstood concept and it’s not hard to understand why when you look at the different schemes around. “Wardens, scheme managers, support workers - why are they called by different names and more importantly what do they do? Can family and friends still visit? Will I be lonely? What help will I actually get?”

At Rockdale we try to give full, helpful and appropriate advice to anyone thinking about moving into sheltered accommodation. We can provide you with a comprehensive handbook about our sheltered accommodation, and we are willing at every stage of the application process to discuss your concerns and help you decide if it’s the right move for you.

Support Service
Our team of 5 full-time support workers are on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to support residents to live independently.

Between 8.30am and 9pm they visit residents and make regular contact with them. We make sure that everyone receives a visit at least once a month, although many residents are visited more frequently than this if they need extra support, for example if they have been ill, or are lonely. Outside these hours the support workers deal with any emergencies that arise.

We make sure that we have some sort of contact with everyone every three days, even if this only means that, for example, the resident called in at reception, or is seen out and about around the site. Support workers will also plan and carry out social events throughout the year, liaise with external agencies such as GPs, district nurses, etc., and keep necessary records of resident support.

The Tunstall Call Equipment
Every flat has a call system installed so that residents can contact the support workers and talk to them easily. Some residents also choose to have call pendants to wear, so that they can raise the alarm wherever they are in the flat.

All apartments also have smoke detectors linked through the call system so that support workers will know when there is smoke either inside a flat or in the communal areas and take prompt emergency action.

Diners Club
Many residents choose to use the Diners Club which is open from Tuesday to Friday each week. An appetising two course meal is offered at a very reasonable cost and it’s a good opportunity to meet friends and make new ones.

Home Help
Residents find our two home helps can make all the difference to running their homes. The home helps can be booked in multiples of 30 minutes on a regular or occasional basis and the home helps will help with a wide range of tasks such as shopping, ironing or cleaning
