Our Trustees

As a charitable enterprise, Rockdale Village has a board of Trustees, to whom the Chief Executive and senior leadership team are accountable. The Board is led by our Chair, Jackie Churchward-Cardiff. Our Trustees are responsible for formulating Rockdale Village’s policies and monitoring our work. All experts in their fields, they lend Rockdale their time and considerable professional expertise.

Andrew’s association with Rockdale started in 2022 when he became a member of our Board of Trustees and Chair of our Finance Committee, where he was intrinsic in creating our long-term strategy. He then briefly served as our Head of Business Transformation before being appointed to the position of Chief Executive in the summer of 2024.

Andrew has an extensive professional background in social housing, property management and finance which includes chairing a consortium that managed over 7,000 social housing homes, co-owning two care homes in Essex (where he collaborated closely with the NHS to deliver complex care needs) and serving as both Head of Public Sector Finance at a leading investment bank and as a Board Member of West Kent Housing.

As Rockdale’s Chief Executive Andrew has led the charge to widen our services, ensuring that Rockdale can now offer our residents a home no matter how their needs change as they age. These expanded services include nursing care at Rockdale House and – for our independent-living residents-  bespoke, personalised care in the comfort of their Rockdale apartments. “My role is to bring positive change to Rockdale Village without losing that intrinsic magic that makes community life here so special,” says Andrew. “Rockdale has served our local community for over 75 years, and it’s my mission to ensure we continue to evolve in a way that supports our charitable objectives so we can serve Sevenoaks for another 75 years and beyond.”

Bea Oliver

Registered Manager, Rockdale Cares

Bea’s path to Rockdale was an unorthodox one. She was enjoying a successful twenty-year career in retail management, but everything changed one evening when she witnessed the poor, hurried and impersonal domiciliary care given to her ageing mother-in-law.

Fired with a sense of mission, Bea handed in her notice the very next morning with the express aim of providing care to the elderly that was personal, compassionate and empowering. “My aim that morning was to enable just one person to live independently in their own home for as long as they chose to live there,” Bea says. Within days she was working as a carer in home care, and then moved to Rapport Housing’s Barnes Lodge Care Home. At Rapport she rapidly rose through the ranks to become Area Manager for Domiciliary Care, responsible for the care of residents over four sites across Kent.

Ten years later, in the summer of 2024, a move to Rockdale made Bea’s mission complete. Not only is she responsible for the home support and front-of-house services for Rockdale’s 200-plus independent-living residents, but she also launched ‘Rockdale Cares’, our brand new service offering bespoke personalised home care to our residents, enabling them to stay living independently in their treasured homes for longer. Bea’s emphasis, as ever, is on kindness.

Jo Tenwick

Registered Manager, Rockdale House

Jo Tenwick is Rockdale House’s Registered Home Manager and a registered nurse.

Inspired as a teenager by her Social Care teacher, Jo has spent her entire working life in the care sector. Aged 16, she found work experience in a care home and never looked back. Jo read Politics & Economics at university but supported herself throughout by working as a domiciliary and care home carer. Upon graduating she trained as a nurse before spending many years working in NHS hospitals, including in A&E, ITU and Respiratory wards. In 2005 Jo made the move to residential and nursing care homes for the elderly, doing every form of nursing role, then progressing into management positions including ‘Development Manager’, ‘Head of Governance & Compliance’ and a variety of Regional and Area Manager roles for large care home chains. Her experience of managing care homes across London and the home counties is vast.

However, small is beautiful – and after having worked for large corporates, Jo now relishes the independence, intimacy and family-feel of Rockdale House. She says; “The moment I first walked into Rockdale House I fell in love with it. It’s such a rarity… a care home that really feels like the residents’ home. There’s a friendly, family-like atmosphere that you notice as soon as you arrive. Many of our staff have been here for years, sometimes caring for two generations of the same family! It’s a place where you instantly feel comfortable.”

Head of Governance & HR

Claire joined Rockdale at the start of 2023, having worked within the HA sector for over a decade, including five years at MHS Homes and three at Shepherds Bush Housing Association. She had also previously spent several years within the HR department of Barclays Bank.

“I am proud to work for Rockdale Village. There is a true community feel here and I get great pleasure from knowing that I work within a sector that makes a difference to people’s lives. I’m passionate about the positive role HR & Governance has to play in engaging and supporting our team to deliver an excellent service for our residents.”

Claire receives a huge number of CVs every week from people seeking work with us. “But you have to be a special kind of person to work at Rockdale,” she says. “Qualifications and experience are obviously key but most important of all is kindness. All our staff are hand-picked and have kindness at their core.”

Jackie Churchward-Cardiff

Chair

Chair of the Board of Trustees at Rockdale Village, Jackie Churchward-Cardiff has a breadth of healthcare and business experience that is second-to-none, and a long history of working with companies with social values at their core. Initially qualifying as a nurse in 1981, she went on to have a 22-year career at the NHS, working her way up from a Staff Nurse and Sister to Director of Operations for the Barts & Royal London NHS Trust. She later became a Non-Executive Director at the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Deputy Chair of East Kent NHS Hospital Trust’s facility management subsidiary company, 2Gether Support Solutions.

After leaving the NHS, Jackie moved to the private sector to work for HCP Social Infrastructure. Initially working on Hospital PFI bids in the UK, she also set up a successful Canadian arm of the company and worked on projects in Australia and Europe. She also developed a consultancy service in care delivery and infrastructure and ultimately became HCP’s Chief Executive. Upon retiring from HCP, Jackie set up her own company, Clinical Strategies, which specialised in planning and advice for healthcare projects across the UK. Pertinently, she also spent four years as Chair of Trustees at Avante Care, a not-for-profit charity that provides residential and at-home care for 1,300 older people, including those living with dementia.

Says Jackie; “Since joining the board at Rockdale Village I have been blown away not just by the progress made in expanding the services we offer, but in the depth and quality of the care shown to our residents every day by staff across every facet of the business. Kindness defines Rockdale and I am delighted to be part of the team.”
